Do you believe in God? Do you believe that God wants to speak to you? I believe He does want to speak to you. In fact, this series of articles relates to a series of dreams that God gave me, that all came true. They were quite detailed and, as you read this, I think you will agree that these events could in no way have even remotely happened by mere “chance”. I trust that you will be encouraged as you read this, to put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. As the Bible says, “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) P.S. You are more than welcome to pass these articles on. I really believe they are meant for everyone to read.
On July 11, 2005, I had this dream. In the dream, I found a job at a place that looked similar to a house in the midst of a nice city. I began to discuss salary, and I said that I thought the job was worth “12 times 5”, and a man who spoke with authority said to me, “No! Not 5, but 7!” Then, I did a calculation, 12 x 8 = 96, which I deliberated on for numerous seconds. The man with authority had said to me “12 times 7”, but I had said to another man, “12 times 8”.
The dream was perplexing, but what was happening was that the Lord was preparing me for negotiations at a company that I was soon to be at, unbeknownst to me. The Lord was actually giving me some round numbers, and here is what the dream meant. First, the “12 times 5” meant “12 months times 5 thousand dollars per month” (which is 60 thousand dollars per year). In fact, when the company first offered me the job, they offered me 65 thousand dollars. But 12 times 5 was a rounded number. If you wanted to represent 65 thousand dollars in rounded numbers (by removing the decimal points), that would equal “12 times 5”.
But the man who spoke with authority had said, “No! Not 5, but 7!” This man was telling me that I was not to accept the “12 times 5” which I was going to be offered. Instead, I was to accept “12 times 7”. Again, we’re dealing with rounded numbers. If you do the math, “12 times 7” could represent anywhere from 78 to just under 90 thousand dollars per year.
But what about the “12 times 8?” This represented the fact that there would be bargaining going on in order to arrive at the “12 times 7”. The idea is that if you want to negotiate for a certain number, you have to generally push for a little bit higher than that.
A Month and a Half Later
I had no idea the timeline that this dream represented, or when, or if, it would occur even in the next year or two – or ten for that matter. That’s the thing about faith. You have to trust God. God does not always tell you all the answers.
Fifty-one days later, on August 31st, 2005, I received a telephone call from out of the blue. It was from a consulting agency. It was a Wednesday night, and my wife and I and our children arrived home around 7 p.m. to find this message waiting for me on the phone.
“Hello, this is Robert from Alcea Technologies. I’m looking for a Perl programmer for a thirty-day contract. Please call me back before 10 p.m. tonight.”
When we got home, I heard the message, then called up Robert at the number he left. The next day, I was at an interview at a place called BitHeads. Now BitHeads was the company that had hired Alcea to find a Perl programmer for a 30-day contract. When I got to BitHeads, the people there were very friendly, and after the interview, they agreed to take me on. My start date was the next day, September 2, 2005.
Now BitHeads did not need me for themselves, they had been hired by yet another company, called Time ICR. Arriving at BitHeads the next day, a man named Ted drove me over to Time ICR, where I would be working. Ted introduced me to a man named Khen, and my thirty day contract was officially underway.
Two weeks into my contract work, Khen made a comment one day. “I looked at your code, and I’m impressed.” I thanked Khen and told him, “Well, if you are really impressed, maybe you can get me hired full time here.” Khen obviously then mentioned that to the VP of Business Operations, a man by the name of Ian.
It wasn’t long before Ian came up to me one day, and said, “I heard you write pretty good code. I’m wondering, would you consider the possibility of working full-time here?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “Great. Well, please send me your resume, then.” So, the next day, I sent him my resume.
God worked everything out so that Robert, the man who had initially hired me, was willing to let me work for Time ICR full-time without requiring any type of financial compensation.
When I received the offer of full-time employment from Time ICR, sure enough, they offered me “12 times 5” (in this case, 65,000 dollars). By this time, I was not surprised, because God had “nudged” me numerous times as to the fact that the dream I had received on July 11, 2005 had to do with this current job offer.
I had actually all but forgotten about the dream by the time I started working at Time ICR, but when I worked there the first day, I remember coming home and telling my wife, “It’s a very quaint place. It looks just like a house on the inside.” That began to ring my little internal “reminder bell”, and I began to think about the dream. “Hum” I began to wonder, “that reminds me of the dream I had “
Then, at the time of negotiations, and especially when that full-time offer of employment came, it really began to ring my little internal “reminder bell”. You could say that my little internal “reminder bell” was ringing very strongly at that point in time! It was a resounding ring, and even though on one level I would have loved to have just accepted the offer of employment (and my wife certainly wanted me to accept the offer), yet because I knew it was not God’s will and that He had something better for me, I was not able to accept the offer as it then stood, because they offered me precisely the amount that the man who had the authority indicated I was not to accept. Thus, I turned them down and told them it was not high enough.
They asked me, “How much do you want?” Initially, during the negotiating process, I started at 90 thousand dollars. This was in the “12 x 8” region in the dream. Throughout the process of negotiations, the company ended up offering me exactly 80 thousand dollars per year, which was exactly within the “12 times 7” range that the Lord had indicated months earlier in the dream. So it all worked out exactly as God had indicated. Pretty thrilling, I think, to think that God cares about us that much, so as to be willing to reveal precise details like that in dreams, to prepare us in advance, so we can have confidence during the day of negotiations!
