Be Fruitful and Multiply

‘So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.’ (Genesis 1:27-28)

A relative of mine, a sincere, honest, church going son of a presbyterian minister who does not accept the word as truth wrote me the following:

‘Here is something I picked off the Internet yesterday and used it when I chaired our Environmntal House Group of our church last evening. It means a lot to me in dealing with today’s attitudes. Is this a reality?

– God took it a day at a time, didn’t do it all at once
– God celebrated along the way (saw that it was good!)
– God took a break (rested on 7th day)
– God let go of control (creation was not a ‘done deal’
but a living,changing world–go and multiply, etc.)
– God trusted (gave us responsibility–dominion over the
earth and a responsibility to look after it.)’

In my reply to him I said that ‘to live is Christ and to die is gain’ is the reality in my life, as I am sure it is in yours. I then got thinking about what he had written and wound up sending him the following:

You wrote, and I quote: ‘ God let go of control (creation was not a ‘done deal’ but a living, changing world–go and multiply, etc.)’ This implies that God did not complete His work of creation, despite the fact that we are told, in Genesis 1:31 ‘And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.’ You can be sure that when God makes something that He considers ‘very good’, man will be unable to improve upon it. He had already given man ‘dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.’ (Verse 28), but He did not give man ‘dominion over the earth and a responsibility to look after it.’ The fact is that man has attempted to assume that responsibility in recent times, as a matter of self preservation, but God is still in control, not man. Man’s responsibility has been to ‘be fruitful and multiply’ and this, I think you will agree, was done until recent times. Today, man is doing everything he can to stop being fruitful and multiplying. Where does that leave us?

Ah, there’s the rub. Shortly God will take the bride of Christ to heaven and let man assume the dominion he thinks is his and the result will be a complete breakdown of law and order, worldwide. Then, in God’s own time, He will send His Son, Jesus Christ to establish the rule of the law and order that man is incapable of establishing by himself. His reign will last for 1,000 years but, by the end of the 1,000 years, a large part of the population of the earth, at that time, will be prepared to rebel against the rule of the Lord. This will prove, beyond a doubt, that man is incapable of exercising dominion, even under conditions of law and order. It is then that the new heaven and the new earth will be created.

Praise the Lord!

I had not thought about it before but it is a fact that by using birth control, permitting abortions, limiting family size (as is done in China) man is violating the commandment to be fruitful and multiply. This could well be a major factor pointing to the proximity of the endtimes. Praise the Lord!
