Where there is the genuine article — and especially if that article is valuable — there will always be the counterfeit. When it comes to everlasting life, and making sure that you “have it,” it is of course to most greatly emphasized, “Beware of the counterfeit!” C.S. Lewis said that there are really only two faiths at work in the world, Christianity, — “the real thing” — and Hinduism — which is the counterfeit.
Hinduism, in it’s generic form, is just another way of saying, “Work hard and do good and maybe God will accept you one day. Christianity, however, is based on the knowledge that we are all sinners and can’t possibly earn God’s favor. Christianity requires that a person humble themselves before a loving yet holy God, who created us, yes, and who loves us, yes, but who also happens not to tolerate sin, unbelief, and cowardliness in the people that he created — such is a turning away from God’s character, and God will not be united with those of a different character! As such, they are not invited into his permanent dwelling place, but will remain outside the gates, in hell. “But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars — their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8).
The difference between what the world teaches (let’s call it “Hinduism,” or “good works” in order to find favor with God), and Christianity, is that Christians find their approval from the finished work of what their mighty Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ did on the Cross some two thousand years ago. Hinduism, on the other hand, says that if a person works hard — the exact opposite of what Christianity says — that he or she will be able to achieve favor with God, because they somehow “prove” to him that they are good enough, that they meet the mark, and that they meet the standard, as it were. Friends, this is wrong. The Bible clearly says that we have all fallen short of God’s perfect standard, and there is nothing more to do now except humble ourselves and receive his grace. “For it is by grace that we are saved, through faith — and this NOT from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works … LEST ANY MAN (OR WOMAN) SHOULD BOAST!” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Friend, the Bible says that “The wages of sin are death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). May I ask you a question? Have you received this “free gift of God which is salvation [only!] in Jesus Christ?” He will accept you if you will humble yourself before him. “For salvation is found in no other name, for no other name is given among men under heaven by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Stop trying to earn his favor. If you could have done that, Jesus would not have given his life for you on the cross. If there was ANY OTHER WAY to finding favor with God than the perfect and complete cross of Jesus Christ, then God himself has made the most unnecessary sacrifice in sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins — for God chose needlessly to sacrice his Son. And yet God has made no mistake. He knew that WITHOUT THE SHEDDING OF THE BLOOD of Christ, there could be NO forgiveness for mankind’s sins, including NO forgiveness for me or you! Therefore you MUST receive what Jesus has done if you HOPE to even come close to heaven’s gate. No other shall be allowed in! Heaven is a holy place! Liars, thieves, and those who reject the gospel shall not dwell there! Praise God, heaven will be a safe place, and you are invited to dwell in this safe place forever, eternally free from harm!
“And without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.” (Hebrews 9:22).
Have you received that free gift of salvation? It is not by works, lest any person should boast!
Paul said, “May I never boast except in the cross of Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” (Galatians 6:14). Can you say with Paul today, “Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with what you have penned by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I have received Christ into my life and I am sure I a shall be in heaven with God when I die”? If so, and according to the Bible, YOU ARE SAVED AND NEED NOT FEAR GOD’S JUDGMENT. If not, however, you are probably not saved yet. Saved from what? Indeed, from God’s judgment against unbelief, sin, and cowardliness, and the refusal to give your life to Christ who gave his life for you.
