Deceiving Spirits

Since deceiving spirits deceive (it is their nature), the first thing you must know about them is that they will (try to) deceive you into thinking that you are believing the truth when in fact you are believing a lie.

Deceiving spirits will not usually ‘confess’ or ‘tell you’ that they are deceiving spirits. The Bible says that Satan (the head of the pack or bunch, as it were — he is their literal ‘head’ or ‘master’) disguises himself as an ‘angel of light.’ (2 Corinthians 7:14)

Deceiving spirits, then, will disguise themselves as messengers of truth.

A great deal of the teaching associated with certain churches is deceptive, unsupported by, and even directly contrary to, what the Bible teaches, and leads people astray from God’s will — not closer to him, but actually farther away from him (and closer to hell if not to hell itself).

Jesus said to the Pharisees (the religious leaders of the day), ‘You travel land and sea to make one convert, and, when you do, you make him twice the child of hell than yourselves!’ (Matthew 23:15)

A true example of a deceiving spirit ‘in action’ is as follows (I had the following conversation with a kind woman in 1991 who claimed to have a conversation with the ‘Virgin Mary’. The woman was fearful, however, of leaving her house, and had not left it for years! Evidently, she was bound by spirits, that were lying to her. Why? you will find out as you read the following:)

She said, ‘I wanted to know if she (the ‘Virgin Mary’) really remained a virgin after she got married to her husband (Joseph). So I asked her.’

‘What did ‘she’ say to you?’ I asked.

‘She said, ‘Yes,” that she did remain a virgin.

‘Oh, is that so?’ I went on. ‘But the Bible clearly says that Mary only remained a virgin UNTIL the birth of Jesus, and that Jesus had other brothers and sisters!’ (Please see Mark 6:3 as well as other passages which prove this is true.)

The lady, however, was unwilling to hear me out. She prefered to ‘talk with these spirits’ (her own form of witchcraft and rebellion) than to actually believe what the Bible had to say on the matter!

To her, the word of God (the Bible) was not infallible. Her own changing/subjective experiences were more authoritative than God’s unchanging truth! Her ‘reward’ (or punishment) for refusing to believe God was that she was confined because of fear from leaving her house! That is a curse!

‘Every word of God proves true he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you, and you be found a liar!’ (Proverbs 30:5-6)

The lady was rebuked, but she still would not listen!

The Bible warns us that, if what we experience is contrary to God’s word (the Bible), then we are to reject it. Many people … even entire churches, believe and practice things that are contrary to God’s word! Judgment awaits them. Because of their rebellion, they will be ‘confined’ to their own theological ideas — they will NOT BE ABLE TO LEAVE THEIR OWN FALSE HOUSES THAT THEY HAVE BUILT UP FOR THEMSELVES. THEY WILL SEAL THEMSELVES OFF FROM RECEIVING THE BLESSINGS THAT GOD WANTS THEM TO RECEIVE!

This lady COULD NOT LEAVE HER HOUSE! SHE WAS BOUND BY THE SAME SPIRITS THAT SHE WAS TALKING TO! ARE YOU TALKING TO ANY SPIRITS? IT IS **these** THAT ARE BINDING YOU AND CAUSING YOU SUCH PAIN AND SICKNESS IN YOUR LIFE!

The solution? STOP TALKING TO THESE SPIRITS, AND BEGIN COMMUNING WITH THE LIVING LORD AND SAVIOR, WHO BOUGHT YOU WITH HIS BLOOD!

Deceiving spirits can actually ‘speak’ through the voice of people. They use their vocal cords — and while the person is speaking, a deceiving spirit is speaking through them!

‘And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying SPIRIT in the mouth of all his PROPHETS.’ (1 Kings 22:22, emphasis added)

‘Beloved, believe not every SPIRIT, but try the SPIRITS whether they are of God: because many false PROPHETS are gone out into the world.’ (1 John 4:1, emphasis added)

(Compare the two previous passages which clearly show us that deceiving spirits can and **do** speak through the mouth of people — even ‘prophets’ (religious people).)

Beware, and be forewarned! Satan **does** disguise himself as an ‘angel of light’ and you will be deceived on many seemingly ‘genuine-from-God’ occasions and from people who **appear** to be from God, but are speaking from the devil, if you yourself do not make it a **priority** to be a man or woman ‘of the word’ (someone who studies the Scriptures on a regular, consistent, basis).

As Jesus himself said to the Saducees about their own brand of false doctrine (these ALSO were religious leaders, i.e. ‘prophets’!), ‘YOU ARE IN ERROR, BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW THE SCRIPTURES OR THE POWER OF GOD!’ (Matthew 22:29, emphasis added.)

All which goes to prove that, if you **really** want to be in the ‘right’ in God’s book, and be protected from the influences of perhaps well-meaning — but deceived — people, you need to be like the Bereans of old, who took **not** the words of ‘every preacher’ as ‘gospel truth,’ but, instead, decided to ‘check things out’ for themselves!

‘Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with all eagerness, EXAMINING THE SCRIPTURES DAILY TO SEE IF THESE THINGS WERE SO.’ (Acts 17:11, emphasis added)
