Recently, it was reported in the news that some maintenance people (let’s use the old word, “janitors”) were going back to work after having not cleaned the public schools for quite some time … was it days, weeks, or months? I can’t remember. But what I do remember is that they reported on the news that after the relatively brief period of time without janitors performing their normal cleaning duties, that they had to sport gas masks and gloves the first day back on the job!!!
My, my … think about that. What on earth did they have to do that for? Well, if you think for a minute, you’ll soon realize that the second law of thermodynamics, or the law of entropy, as it is sometimes referred to, is readily proven in this circumstance, that … if an external, creative, “clean up” force is not applied to the natural state of affairs, then everything naturally tends to go towards a state of extreme disorder! (That’s the enhanced version, but that is essentially what the second law of thermodynamics states.) Or, simply put, “Left to themselves in a closed system, things naturally tend towards a state of disorder (that is, this thing called ‘entropy’).”
That’s what the second law is all about. Things run down. Things wear out. Things don’t naturally “build up” but rather, things naturally “come to a grinding halt”! No, a genius doesn’t suddenly come walking out of the mud, according to the second law of thermodynamics. Rather, the genius gradually becomes mud! And didn’t God say it best, when he first created man, “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” (Genesis 3:19) There you have it. The definitive word on what we will all, one day, become … thank God we won’t have to stay in these “earthly tents” when that time comes!!! We’ll be long gone, heaven bound, if we have trusted in Christ as our Lord and Savior. As Paul writes, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” (2 Corinthians 5:1)
Now I began thinking about this report on the news, that the janitors, after only a short time away from their duties, had to sport gas masks and gloves in order to go about cleaning the toilets again, and whatnot. Think about that for a minute. We’re not talking about massive amounts of time here that they were away from their jobs! We’re talking weeks, or maybe months. But none of this “million year” stuff that we hear the so-called “scientists” talking about — those millions of years that it took for man to suddenly “climb out” of the mud! Now think about it. After weeks, maybe months, what was “proper” did exactly what the second law of thermodynamics said it would: it came to a grinding halt, because it was left to itself in this “closed system” (no external forces were added).
No scientist would deny that the entirety of the universe itself is one big closed system — that is, if you leave God out of the equation. Did the universe — this closed system — form itself all of a sudden? Did it climb itself out of the mud, and suddenly become something? No, not a chance — not if you are a believer in the second law of thermodynamics which states that that type of thing could never happen. You see, we’re fooling ourselves to think that at one and the same time we can believe in both the second law of thermodynamics and the “big bang” theory. Both cannot be true. As the expression goes, “There ain’t room enough for the two of us in this town … one of us is going to have to leave!” Well, I’ve got news for you: It’s not the second law of thermodynamics that is going to leave! But rather, it’s “bang-bang” “big bang”!
So what about these janitors who walked off the job? Did they prove or disprove the theory of evolution? Ah, they clearly disproved it, because things got pretty messy after just a short period of time. Let that type of stuff go on for millions of years … as they say … and all intelligence would cease forever … according to the second law of thermodynamics … that is, unless the system really wasn’t closed after all and there existed a supernatural being exerting his awesome, glorious, and stunning, creative, power upon the universe in order to cause it to become in six short days what it indeed did become: a glorious, wonderful, universe, full of wonderful and exciting things!
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31a)
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” (Revelation 4:11)
