“Hey, Mister,” the boy said, as I was about to leave the parking lot in our van with my three children. “Do you want to buy a chocolate bar?”
Suddenly, I thought of my two children who regularly sold chocolate bars to help raise support for their school, and how grateful we were whenever someone purchased one from them.
“Sure,” I said.
Besides, it was the time for chocolate bars. We had just enjoyed some “rest and relaxation” at a water park, and what better way to top it off than with a chocolate bar?
“How much are they?” I said.
“Two dollars,” came the reply.
I peered into the boy’s box, and saw what he had to offer. Hum … there were quite a few selections there, four types of “bars” in all, and one of my favorites, chocolate-coated almonds!
But then he showed me the solid chocolate bar filled with almonds, and I became perplexed as to which of the two to purchase.
“I’ll take them both,” I said.
I went to fetch some money, and came up with a five dollar bill.
“Have you got a dollar?” I said to the boy.
“Yes,” he replied.
I handed the boy the five dollar bill, and suddenly I knew the Lord was saying to me, “Give him the change.”
The boy handed me four quarters, and I took those quarters and said to him, “What would you do with this if I gave it to you?”
The boy didn’t have time to think of an answer but was obviously pleasantly surprised at the prospect of being able to receive it. As I placed it back into his hand, I said to him, “Consider this a blessing from God.”
I asked the boy, “Do you love Jesus?”
“Yes,” the boy said.
“Well, that’s good,” I said to the boy. “Because Jesus sssssure loves you!”
The boy was obviously content at what had just transpired, and my heart was pleased at having been able to talk with him. I felt a sense of real peace, that I had done the right thing.
I turned around to leave, and presented the “gifts” to my three children, who were by this time all strapped in their seatbelts and ready to go. The children were, of course, delighted with the gifts.
It was time to go now. We had enjoyed our day at the water park, and a little boy knew just a little bit more about how much Jesus really loved him.
Do you love Jesus?
Jesus sssssure loves you!
