Not long ago, I was following behind a person who seemed to be going “too slowly” for me on the road. With my wife and kids in the car, I blurted out something like, “Hey, buddy, you’re going too slow for me! Let’s move it!” I then swerved around him, breaking the solid line, and doing somewhat over the speed limit (I confess, I sinned). Then, I started to lose the wonderful sense of peace that I had formerly enjoyed up until that point in time.
Well, life is like that, is it not? When all is going well, temptation seems to come at us blind side. And all too often, like I did, we “go for it”, thinking that we have the upper hand! I should have known better than to have crossed over that solid line. And who knows that the man in front of me may have actually been an a servant of the Lord placed there at that very time in order to test me. Ah… I failed the test – miserably!
Because of this sudden ‘confusion’ (lack of peace) that I was now beginning to experience, I knew what to do: repent! I slowed down — and even considered going back to the spot where I began to overtake that man — and all of sudden, you know what? I began to feel better again. Ah, peace!
So good did I feel — and, will you look at that, we happened to now be ‘right in front’ of the pizza shop — that I decided to stop and buy a pizza (it just happened to be supper time). I ended up having a wonderful spiritual conversation with at least one man there, and I ‘knew’ that — Ah … — this was the Lord’s will (that I stop).
Peace? No peace? There is a reason for it. God gives his peace with his children — with those who will obey him, every step of the way! If you are today caught by this ‘lack of peace’ like I was, then the answer is simple: slow down, repent (take an ‘about face’), ask God what you need to do to regain his wonderful, heaven-sent, peace, and he will show you. Who knows? It might even lead to a wonderful spritual conversation with another person, who will be just as blessed as you are by this heaven-sent peace.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)
