I am grateful for the writings of Pastor/Reverend John B. Woodward for the article that inspired me to write this. May the Lord’s name be praised!!!
“Lord, are you my Father?
Do you take care of me when I am hurting?
So you see the pain?
Do you rejoice with me when I am soaring?
Is there any gain?”
“Son, I am your Father,
And yes, I take care of you when you are hurting.
I see the pain.
And indeed, I rejoice with you when you are soaring
(though don’t get proud, now!),
And yes, there is much to gain.”
“Lord, can you show me that you’re my Father?
That you’re with me when I’m all alone?
And that you’ll never leave me, nor forsake me,
Throughout life’s journey,
‘Till my job is done?”
“Son, I can show you that I am your Father,
For number one, you call me so,
And if it weren’t for the fact
That I had called you my son,
Would you even be appealing to me,
To find out if I was your Father?
For I gave birth to you,
On the day that I called you,
It was a remarkable day which I remember very well.
For you were lonely and rejected,
And I picked you up, gave you my Spirit,
And called you, ‘My son.’
So do not ask, if I am your Father,
When you know it very well!
For the day that you were born all heaven rejoiced,
All time stood still, and I shouted, ‘A son has been born!
Rejoice, rejoice … again I say rejoice!!!’
You were born in a timely fashion,
At the instant that I called you to be,
You were born at my word,
Like the day I created the land and the sea,
For so it was, and of it all heaven heard.
My son, I am your Father,
I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Throughout life’s trials,
I am here to hold you,
Tightly in my arms, securely in my grasp.
No need to worry, I am with you forever,
We’ve got a future ahead of us,
Let’s live it together,
So remember that I am with you,
Never to forsake you.
I will always be your Father,
Yes, … I will always … always … always …
Be your Father!”
(And that’s something that you can count on!)
“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee … I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee … I have chosen you … I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” (Jeremiah 31:3, Hebrews 13:5c, John 15:16b, Matthew 28:20c)
