One In Christ, One In Love

A man may be blessed by doing nothing greater than waiting just a few extra moments while he leaves his daughter’s room, after having kissed her good-night. In those extra precious few moments, the man re-iterates his love for his daughter, and says, ‘Good-night, darling …. you are special, and I love you!’

Cheerfully, his young daughter gleams in his eyes, looking straight at him, and says, ‘Daddy, I love you too! Good-night! Seeeeeeeee ya later!’

Something special has happened. Something very special has transpired. In those few extra moments — really, it only took a moment, but it became ‘sovereign’, and ‘ultra-special’ — a special blessing has been transmitted, and received, by both parties. Communication has taken place. Something amazing and wonderful has taken place in that room. A genuine ‘love for the father’ has been expressed.

Now think about that. What could be more beautiful than us, as children, expressing our love to our heavenly Father like that? But how do we do such a thing? We do it by expressing our love to, and for, one another, just as that beautiful little girl expressed her love for her daddy, whom she loved (that was my daughter!).

The love that God desires to transmit around the world will never happen if it is not performed from one individual to another. We were designed to love. Something went wrong. But now we have been redeemed and forgiven, by Christ, who sets us free, on account of the blood that he shed while on that cruel and rugged cross.

We may not all have daughters, or sons, but surely we all have someone that we can develop a relationship with and love. This is God’s expressed will for you and me. Reach out today, and hold a hand, and tell someone that you love them. If you are not sure how to do this, then start to get involved in a small group at your church. (If you do not have a church, then you need to find one in which the word of God is honored.)

As you and I reach out and ‘touch someone’ (as Keith Green would say), this world will indeed become a better place to live in. God’s message of healing love will spread like never before — more than any evangelistic campaign could ever every produce, in a zillion years of ‘trying hard!’

When the church begins to come together with a love like this, watch out! For it is then that his kingdom does come!

‘Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are … That they all may be one, as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.’ (John 17:11b,21)

’18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.’ (1 John 3:18)
