It pains me to have to read in the newspaper a so-called “scientific study” that was allegedly performed by an individual in which he claims that it is entirely normal for animals of varying species to exhibit homosexual behavior (thus, providing justification for himself, and those that are of the mindset that this is a “good study”, to do the same).
What a “good grief” this is to my spirit — and so should it be to yours, too. The article is found on, none other than, page A-1 of the Ottawa Citizen (Nov 29, 1999) — that Christian, family-based, organization, that is in the business of promoting family values. (Don’t take me seriously when I say this.) The article is entitled, “Birds do it, bees do it, animals do it — and just for fun.”
Which brings me to the following point: The article actually applauds, condones, and confirms, what is clearly written in the Bible, for, if you read the entirety of the article, you will see that the whole basis for it is none other than the justification of ungodly sexual practices based on what animals themselves do — animals that have been tainted by sin, nonetheless, and which themselves, the Bible clearly explains, “groan”.
“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.” (Romans 8:22)
Creation, then, is said to “groan” in the Bible. It is “groaning” because of sin that was introduced through our first parents, Adam and Eve. Not some parts of creation, but “the whole creation”, as we read in this verse, is groaning. It is unquestionable, that, yes, some animals may indeed exhibit homosexual behavior based on this “groaning”, or “affectation by sin”, if you will.
“Now, in what way does the article applaud, condone, and confirm what is clearly written in the Bible?” you say? For one, it uses the animals as a basis, or, rather, should I say, a justification, for the behavior of those that would like to practice homosexuality. The reasoning goes something like this: “If the animals can practice homosexuality, then it is perfectly reasonable for me to practice it as well.”
Now what does it say in the Bible, that “archaic” book that knows “nothing at all” about human behavior? “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.” (Romans 1:22-23)
Well, there it is. The Bible said it first (not that article). Two thousand years ago, a man by the name of Paul, a holy man of God, wrote down, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, that mankind would begin to worship the animals. Today, we have that fact proudly documented on page A-1 of the newspaper, thus justifying, condoning, applauding, and confirming, what the Bible has said on this matter.
The Article’s Great Omission
The article failed to recognize that neither our pattern (or example) of what is right, nor our justification for doing that which we call “right”, rests in what the animals do. Rather, it rests in what God does. God is the One that has not been tainted by sin, whereas the animals are the ones that have. See the difference? … Get the point? We either look up, and follow God in order to seek guidance, or — shame on us — we look down and think that we can somehow follow the example of four footed beasts as well as reptiles, in order to somehow “justify” ourselves. That lie could not be further from the truth.
To all of the Christians reading this, as well as those who may one day, by God’s grace, become a Christian: May I remind you of what our supreme example is: His name is Jesus. “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.” (1 Peter 2:21) Again, we read the word of Jesus, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” (John 13:15) Again, the apostle Paul writes, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 1:11).
Who then is our example? Is it the birds and the bees, those things which were created beautiful by God, but, which, admittedly, have become corrupted through the groanings of creation, just like the rest of creation? Or, is it Christ, the spotless lamb of God, who, as John the Baptist made clear, “takes away the sin of the world”? (John 1:29)
Christian, or non-Christian, who is YOUR example today? Is it the birds, and the bees which, even in their untainted state, were created less than mankind? Or, it is the Christ, the One who has been appointed by God to one day judge and rule the world? For, as it says in Scriptures, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow … and … every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10-11)
Whom, or what, or what on earth, or in heaven, are you following?
[Jesus speaking] “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:12-14)
