Outrage!

“And if I say, I will not keep him in mind, I will not say another word in his name; then it is in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am tired of keeping myself in, I am not able to do it.” (Jeremiah 20:9)

Wow! What an outrage! Under the right circumstances, the true colors of people will come to light, and you will see them for who they are. Such was the case yesterday when I attended a government sponsored seminar in which the invited guest advocated separating honesty and integrity from anything having to do with business and selling because the two “don’t have anything to do with each other”. Now is that not an outrage!? But as to the “true colors” that people represent, when I stood up in front of 40 people attending that seminar to protest this man’s wild and corrupt ideas, at least two people spitefully commented, “Christian!” Enemies in our very midst! My friends, this happened at the YMCA — a Christian organization!

I was prompt to report it to the leader — who had not attended the entire seminar — and he thanked me and said, “I will not tolerate this type of thing in my seminars! We’ll not have him back if that is the case!” He then got up and spoke to the 40 individuals who were attending that seminar, and told them honesty and integrity should be upheld in business, and that not all of the views expressed by invited guests are necessarily the views of the YMCA. Praise God for the YMCA! Yes, there are still some good people around!

My friends, this has provoked an outrage in my spirit — and rightly so. It is absolutely outrageous that a man like this should be able to get up and speak. Perhaps he should be allowed to speak on “How to do things wrong” but not on “How to do things right!”

Today, I encourage you, let the holy fire of God burn within you. Be like Jeremiah, willing to stand up and be counted for what is right, who said, “And if I say, I will not keep him in mind, I will not say another word in his name; then it is in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am tired of keeping myself in, I am not able to do it.” (Jeremiah 20:9, Basic English Translation)

Today is the day! If we don’t stand up for what is right, who will? Will a whole generation be led astray because we are not willing to stand up and let our voices count for the sake of the kingdom of God? Think of the children. Think of the adults. Think about the eternal future of so many being at stake. Can we possibly keep silent?
