Overcoming Confusion

Have you ever walked along, and tried to go about your business, and, well … let’s just be honest now … you feel awefully confused! The thought may come to you, “I don’t know which way to go; or where to go, right now.” That, perhaps, may exist in a workplace situation, where you are faced with a variety of tasks to do — and you are unsure, for example, which task to ‘tackle’ next. Well, I’ve got some good news for you if that’s your particular situation. The good news is that there’s a way out of your confusion! I hope that this little article will help you in some tangible way, to understand why it is that we sometimes may become ‘confused’ in the midst of our daily life. I know. I’ve been there!

I was exiting the laboratory where I work, when, all of a sudden, I felt awefully ‘confused’ about where to go! Should I go back to my desk? Or, should I go to the lab downstairs to do the tests like I had planned on doing a while back? For some reason, I wasn’t sure. God had me! I was in the ‘grips’ of the Holy Spirit! To be sure, the Bible explains very clearly that God can and does even use ‘enemy’ spirits to serve him. In other words, if it is expedient for him to do so, he may send a ‘spirit of confusion’ our way — something that might cause us, for example, to ‘wake up and smell the roses’. What do I mean by this? Simply this: that if leaving that lab at that time was not God’s will, then permitting me to suddenly come under the influence of ‘another spirit’ could ‘steer’ me in the right direction. Well, in this case, it did! I felt the confusion all right, for I suddenly didn’t know ‘what to do’ having just left the laboratory. I realized that, as I read in a book by Loren Cunningham years ago, that, “If you lose the presense of God’s Holy Spirit, then the thing to do is go back to the last place where you knew you had it!”

Well, I ‘knew’ where I ‘had it’ last! It was right back inside that door way! I went back to the doorway, and, sure enough, wonderful Holy Spirit-filled thoughts of peace flooded my soul and mind. Man, that’s wonderful! I was filled again! (Never leave yourself in a situation where you are not filled with the Holy Spirit. That is a sure sign that you are in the wrong place!) Well, believe it or not, I just felt that the Lord was saying to me, “Now you just wait right there!” So I did. I just waited. About 25 seconds later, guess what happened? A person that I needed to see for work purposes suddenly came in the other doorway that I was facing at that exact time. I talked with the person for a few important moments, and was able to take care of some important business in a matter of seconds! You see, the Lord leads us to exactly the right spot, at the right time, so we can get our work done! Amazing! Praise the Lord! After that, of course, I knew exactly what to do. The Holy Spirit whispered in my ear, “You can certaily go back to your desk now!” So I did! And what peace and joy did I have along the way!

Do you ever feel confused? Could it be that God is leading you in a certain direction and that he wants you to *slow down* and hear his voice? Well, thank God, it’s easy! Just go back to the last place where you knew that you had the presence of God’s Holy Spirit! If you’ve been nervous all day, you might have to think back to yesterday! If you’ve been nervous all week, then you might have to think back to the week prior! But there *will* be a time that you can think of in which you definitely *had* the presence of God’s Holy Spirit if you are a true, born-again, Christian believer. What does it mean to ‘have’ the presence of God’s Holy Spirit? The following verses, I think, say it all: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:22-25)

Do you have love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), gentleness, goodness, faith (faithfulness), meekness, and temperance (self-control)? If not, think hard back to the last time that you had it! Then, go do it! If you’re like me, you’ll know that ‘being in the right place at the right time’ may well have a lot to do with it!

May the Lord bless you as you consider these things.
