Prophetic Dreams

“In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, [and] told the sum of the matters.” (Daniel 7:1)

“And it shall come to pass afterward, [that] I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.” (Joel 2:28-29)

Yesterday, the pastor preached on the need to live within our means. Too often, we think that God will provide more. But all too often, we are not managing what we have been given, and that is very often the real problem. This reminds me of my own situation eight years ago, or so. It was to the point that I was developing an ulcer.

The Lord intervened and revealed to me that I was trying to live beyond my means. That led to a move to another section of the city for two years where we were able to rent a low cost apartment and live within our means. They were and continue to be memorable years.

At the end of two years, the Lord then moved us on to our next blessing: our own house! We had managed to live within our means for two years, and so the Lord trusted us to be able to manage a house! Before buying the house, the Lord gave me a prophetic dream, showing me that the house would close below 140,000. When negotiations hit 138,000 I knew I didn’t have to go any further. And indeed the house sold for 138,000.

The dream then did three things: (1) It confirmed that God wanted us to buy a house; (2) It told us the approximate cost of the house, thus helping us in negotiations; (3) It told us that, if God approved of us buying the house, then he was going to continue to provide every single mortgage payment, as long as we remained faithful to him!

Praise the Lord, what an encouraging dream! Do you believe in prophetic dreams? I do! God helps us all the time through them! And it is so wonderful to be able to receive direction from God this way! He just loves to bless his children by being able to communicate with them this way. After all, what father is there that doesn’t want to communicate personally and intimately with every single one of his children?

And the dream? The dream was that there were six vials of perfume that ascended to the Lord as a “sweet smelling incense”. These vials belonged to my wife. The cost of each vial of perfume was “a little over $1000 each”. And this was the “down payment” for the house.

Now in “real life” my wife was providing the money for the down payment through retirement savings which, through a government sponsored plan, we were able to “cash in” to apply as a down payment to a house. So we took advantage of this offer and were able to use her savings to help us purchase the house.

Being an engineer, I reasoned, “If the Lord wanted to show me $6000 as the down payment, he would have shown me six vials at exactly $1000 each. And if the Lord had wanted to show me $7000 as the down payment, he would have shown me seven vials at exactly $1000 each. But since the Lord showed me six vials at “a little over $1000 each, then obviously the Lord is showing me that the down payment required for the house will be more than 6000 but less than 7000. What is the Lord telling me? He is telling me that I don’t need to go to 140,000 in my negotiations for the house!”

How did I know that God was telling me that we would not need to go to 140,000 in our negotiations for the house? Simply because of this: According to the government sponsored plan, we only needed to put down 5% on the house. And 5% of 140,000 is 7000. Yet the Lord said the down payment required would be less than 7,000. So I knew I didn’t need to go to 140,000 when negotiating. In “real life”, we negotiated only to 138,000. Because of the dream, we were confident that we didn’t need to go higher. And our offer was accepted!

Do you believe in prophetic dreams? I do! And it’s not just “the prophet” who receives them, either! The Bible says, “And it shall come to pass afterward, [that] I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.” (Joel 2:28-29)

Gently, I would challenge you, if you have never (think you have) received a prophetic dream before, to pray to the Lord that he would give you one. And be prepared to receive — because God loves to bless his children!

How does one be prepared? First, purchase a journal that you can write your dreams in. (Our example is Daniel in the Old Testament, who was diligent to write his dreams down! See quote above.)

Second, make a habit of WRITING DOWN your dreams! In some cases, AS you do, the Lord will bring to your mind MORE of the dream – progressively! Sometimes, it is not UNTIL you start writing that he does that! Why? I think it’s because much or even most of the sense of the dream can easily be lost UNLESS we write them down! Thus, in some cases, God will not bring it back to our mind unless we first start writing!

Will you take the challenge? Do! And be blessed! This could lead you to a completely changed life! Imagine, being led by God through prophetic dreams, tailored to your exact needs, because they are given by a loving heavenly Father who desires to be intimate and personal with his beloved children!
