If you’ve read the Bible, you know that both God and Satan can do miracles. For example, the Egyptian magicians (operating in Satan’s power) were able to turn sticks of wood into living snakes (Exodus 7:12). That’s some feat, especially since snakes don’t have feet. But all joking aside, this really happened. This was one of many miracles that were done using Satan’s power. So Satan definitely has power. In my opinion, this is not preached enough in the church. I am not saying that Satan’s power should be preached in the sense of being desirable to have, but at least we should understand that he is capable of some pretty amazing things.
The Bible also talks about lying signs and wonders which the “man of lawlessness” (or “man of sin”) will perform in the “last days” (a time period before the return of Christ; it is technically the time period from Christ’s ascension to His second coming yet many seem to be using it much more these days, since evidently we are in the latter part of these last days, since 2000 years have already come and gone, and Jesus has yet to return).
It does not seem very fair that Satan should have the power to do miracles, right alongside God, as it were, especially since God created Satan and Satan is a “mere” created being. However, this does not negate the fact that he is able to do some. How many? Hum….. Not quite sure about that one, and there is no one who can actually answer that one definitely, because it is not known. With God, all things are possible. But with Satan, he’s limited. So I would say, it is more than likely true that not even Satan knows how many miracles he can perform. Why? Well, in part, because in the Old Testament, when those magicians tried to perform certain miracles using Satan’s power, guess what? They could not do it!
“The magicians tried with their secret arts to bring forth gnats, but they could not; so there were gnats on man and beast.” (Exodus 8:18)
What does this tell us? It tells us the magicians (operating in Satan’s power) tried to perform a miracle, but were unable to do it. Surely, those demons (or even Satan himself) tried, and tried, to do that miracle … did they not? Like the little engine that could, they thought they could … but they could not.
For all those demons, and Satan himself, are mere created beings and have limits. Yessir, you are not God. And that is a good thing. Because there is only one God.
“For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.” (Psalm 96:5)
I encourage you to watch “They Sold Their Souls: Elvis Presley” (http://youtu.be/M813ZdDK4kE) produced by Good Fight Ministries (Pastor Joe Schimmel, www.goodfight.org). If you watch the video carefully, you will come to a part where the brother-in-law of Elvis Presley gives a testimony of how one day, they were walking in the rain. Elvis told his brother-in-law not to worry about it, and that he would “take care of it” (or to that effect). Elvis “parted the sky” and on the left and right rain fell, but in the middle, it did not fall. How was he able to do this? Was this story even true? I believe it was. This type of activity is in line with the other testimonies on the video. But what happened?
Did God answer Elvis’s prayers?
Evidently, God did not answer Elvis’s prayers.
Elvis was not a follower of Christ. He was into demons. Because he had such incredible influence over the lives of so many millions of people, Satan gladly mustered his forces (other demons) who were able to pull off this stunt* which is reminiscent of yet another stunt that was performed on live television, on America’s Got Talent (http://youtu.be/v15OcJTjNyE). Go ahead and watch that, if you want. What you are watching is pure demon power. The man uses what he calls “Kundalini forces” to raise himself up off the ground. The problem is, he is invoking demons to do it. This is a very limited trick that demons can pull off if you invoke them (PS You do not want to do that, because they will come into you, for the purposes of using you to lure others away from God. Their goal is, in fact, your destructon). But as to whether or not demons including Satan have power, sure they do. They have some power.
But because you have power, and because you say you are living for Christ, does not at all mean that that power comes from God. You might actually be deceived. How can you know for sure? You can know for sure if your heart is in submission to God, you are living in fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ, and you are willing to live your life according to the teachings and principles found in the Bible, which is the word of God. Your safeguard is in fellowship and submission to other believers, and the body of Christ, and your continued perseverance in His word. If you think you can avoid being deceived any other way, it just ain’t so. Satan really does have power, and he’ll even use it on the saints — if, like Elvis Presley, they believe they have that power, and can ignore God, to their own peril.
* Notice how the demons were only able to affect part of the sky. Possibly this is because they were limited in power, and simply could not affect the other part of the sky. Different demons may possibly be given more or less power at different times. This is not to suggest that the power to do any miracle, or not do a miracle, is constant.
