Pick up virtually any newspaper (even the so-called “good” ones), and you’ll be quick to find some very disturbing news. Nucler threats, germ warfare, terrorism, you name it. That is what some people are afraid of. In Israel, they know all about these very real threats. Every home and office (as I understand it) has a bomb shelter. If the threat is real, we should prepare for it. However, we should also realize that we have a real destiny to fulfill, and that is to live for Christ. We shall all one day give an account for how we lived our lives. How will we each fare?
The Lord knows what will all happen to us here on this earth.
Some of us may even die of germ warfare … and may God be glorified in the midst of it!!! Peter died on a cruel and rugged cross (it is said, upside down, at that), and, was not God glorified in the midst of it?
But, of course, nobody wants to die by germ warfare.
Our days are numbered. We should each spend our time wisely. If we are prone to worrying, we should recognized that we need to get on with the work of reaching the lost. For our time is limited. If the threat is real, plan for it. But realize that you will also be called to give an account for how you lived your life on the earth.
“So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
“I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.” (2 Timothy 4:1-2)
