The Day the Penny Dropped

We live in a supernatural world. And as Christians, we serve a supernatural Creator. In the Bible, Jesus indicated that supernatural signs would follow those who believe in Him. Throughout Scripture, it is this same theme, over and over again! It should not be surprising, then, if God’s people – true Christians – should experience supernatural signs. We could reason that if supernatural signs were not at all a part of a Christian’s experience, it might well leave open the question as to whether or not that person really belonged to God. By “supernatural”, of course, I mean anything that occurs which has no basic foundation in the material laws of physics. If you are a Christian, I hope that you can easily come up with some examples in your own life where this is the case!

Well, many years ago, I had an experience that can only be explained by the supernatural. I had this experience while reading a dream, in fact, that I had penned down earlier on. I was so “taken” by this dream, that one evening as I lay there on my bed, in 1991, I opened up my journal and read the dream over, pondering what it could possibly mean. The imagery was quite vivid. In the dream, I was a defenseless child crouched down low hiding behind a chair situated in a living room. There were about three others with me in the living room, each one crouched down low hiding behind a chair or sofa. I had a paper gun in my hand. It was a lousy paper gun and not at all suited for self-defense.

Now in the living room, there was a fireplace. Now in the Santa Claus fairy tale, Santa Claus comes down the chimney and brings his presents. It was not so in this dream, however. In this dream, I was crouched down low sitting on the floor right next to the chair with my paper gun in hand, and I was waiting for some murderer to come through the chimney to murder me with a sharp knife! My paper gun would be useless against this murderer, and that was the problem! The others in the room – all children who also sat behind their respective chairs and crouched down low on the ground – also awaited this murderer/butcher!

Panic was in the air and there was not a THING that I, the defenseless little child, could do about it! This murderer was going to come in the chimney AT ANY MOMENT!

This dream spoke to me, in my spirit. I knew God had given me this dream, but I wanted to be careful to really understand what it meant. As I lay there on my bed that evening, I asked the Lord a question.

“Lord, is this dream about abortion?”

It was then that the supernatural sign happened.

Within just a few seconds of asking that question, I felt something strike my foot. In fact, something had hit one of my toes (for I was not wearing any shoes lying there on top of the bed as I was).

I sat up and looked over towards my feet, and noticed a Canadian penny sitting right next to my toe. It was a Canadian penny that had hit my foot! Incidentally, one of my sister’s name is “Penny” (Penelope), and you might think, that because of this occurrence, she had (or has) a prophetic name!

Well, of course, I looked up to see where that penny might have fallen from – to see if there was a ledge or something that it had fallen off of – but there was nothing in sight, only the ceiling! There’s no way a penny could have rested anywhere on any ledge at all!

So where did this thing come from, anyway? I can only say, it *must* have come from God himself – for there is simply no other possible explanation. My door had been closed, I was the only one in the room, and it was still. There was no earthquake, there was nothing moving in the room! This penny “fell” from … nowhere!

This reminds me of Hebrews 11:3, “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” In other words, God created the universe out of NOTHING! God just SPOKE it into existence!

In other cases, however, we see that God can “move” things (and indeed all things are possible with God). In the case of Philip, God moved Philip supernaturally in just an instant, from one location, to the next – for we read:

“When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing. But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.” (Acts 8:39-40)

So Philip was “teleported”, as it were, from “the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza” (Acts 8:26) all the way to this placed called “Azotus” (Acts 8:40) – in just an instant!

So whether God “created” the penny out of nothing, and then struck me with it on the toe – or whether he “teleported” the penny from some other place, I do not know! But one thing I do know is that God *did* it, and he evidently did it in response to my question, “Lord, is this dream about abortion?”

Well, it turns out that the expression, “the penny dropped” is actually a British idiom (or idiomatic expression, if you will). Here’s what you’ll find for that expression if you go to a website like

“If you say the penny drops, you mean that you have finally understood something.” (

Hmm. And hmm again!

The dream WAS about abortion! This is what the Lord was telling me.

Now you know, if you have read many of my other writings, that I had have plenty of supernatural experiences. But this one “takes the cake” in many ways.

First, a physical object was produced out of nowhere. Haven’t had one like that before (to my recollection) – or since.

Second, the prayer was answered virtually IMMEDIATELY. Haven’t had many like that, either, I must say!

Third, there is a definite message in all of this, that God did not want me to miss – or, I suspect, you or anyone else to miss, either. It is this: this issue of “abortion” is paramount in God’s eyes. He hates it and abhors it with all His might. But as of yet, it remains an undefeated foe.

Why does God not just “crush” it? He could. But God has allowed mankind to have a free will. Part of that free will is getting well-meaning Christians to take up a cause in order to promote justice in the land. On this topic of abortion, here are some very poignant words:

“Deliver those who are being taken away to death,
And those who are staggering to slaughter, Oh hold them back.
If you say, ‘See, we did not know this,’
Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts?
And does He not know it who keeps your soul?
And will He not render to man according to his work?”
— Proverbs 24:11-12

I hope you read that Scripture passage over carefully, because now comes the quiz!

What do you think that passage is about, and why do you think God included that particular passage in the Bible just like it reads? Does it apply only for war time, when people are being paraded out to Nazi concentration camps? Well, I think it does apply to that particular situation – we are to do all we can to help those who are being led away to slaughter. But I really do not think it is limited to that particular application.

Read it over carefully, and I think you will agree that THIS passage applies directly to those who are being led away to the slaughter of abortion. This passage also strips us of all “innocence” in the matter should we personally decide, “I really don’t want anything to do with it, thank-you very much. I have my own life to live, and I have things to do.” For the word says, “If you say, ‘See, we did not know this,’ Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts?” (Proverbs 24:12a). In other words, do you really think that particular excuse is going to “fly” come judgment day when you have to stand before your great Creator? To make matters worse (for those who do not want to get involved), judgment is mentioned in the very same verse! “And does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man according to his work?” (Proverbs 24:12b) It’s a particularly heavy passage – but gross sin and gross indecency requires a firm command. And God’s command – straight from His word – is “YOU HAD BETTER DO SOMETHING BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING TO ANSWER TO ME”.

To sum up, I’m not sure if you “caught on” yet as to why I thought the dream was about abortion, but in case you didn’t, think about what a womb is. A womb is God’s “living room” for the as-of-yet unborn child. In the dream, God was placing me in the “living room”, meaning I was in my mother’s womb. What then did the fireplace and chimney represent? The fireplace and the chimney represented the birth canal – the passage to the outside world. Now this is the same place that “abortionists” in real life comes in with their sharp “butcher-like/murderous” instruments in order to kill unborn children. What about the paper gun in my hand? This represents the DEFENSELESS of the unborn child – how the unborn child cannot defend himself in any way, shape, or form, against the murderous rampagings of the abortionist – a man who is not entitle, by God’s standards, to wear the label, “doctor” – for he has betrayed his own Creator in robbing others of their innocent life.

So ends my discourse on this topic – for now. But it can never be the end of it, until abortion is wiped off the face of the earth. I trust that same sentiment can be heard echoing with you, too. Never give up the fight to see abortion disbanded and dismembered. Abortion is an evil of proportions worse than that of Hitler or Stalin by far. Do not support those who practice it, do not be involved in it, and speak out against it at every opportunity. If you have been involved in it at any level, repent of it, and choose life. Ask God to forgive you and cleanse you, because he will. And, most of all (but not last of all!) pray *fervently* that this great evil would be disbanded and dismembered in your own life time. If you say, “It won’t”, then repent of your unbelief, too, and get cracking with *fervent* prayer! Remember Planned Parenthood in your prayers – that evil organization that Satan has used to spread his propaganda about abortion throughout the earth. I promise you, based on the authority of God’s word, if you pray you will put a big “dent” in Satan’s armor in this area. But are you willing to fight? You live today with the ability to fight – so you *must* fight. Others have not been so fortunate. Their precious lives have been taken from them, mercilessly, at the hands of ruthless and disobedient men. It is time now to fight!
