This is quite brief, but the Lord brought this thought into my mind and I’d like to share it with you.
I started to think about all the animals that were used as sacrifices in the Old and New Testament times. I imagine that these animals (oxen, lambs, goats, etc.) would not have been easily brought to the altar for execution. They may have fought considerably to escape and resisted much. It’s easy to understand why.
Then the Lord showed me about the one sacrifice that did not resist, a lamb that willingly came to the altar to be sacrificed. That lamb was of course, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 53:7 “He was treated harshly and afflicted, but he did not even open his mouth. Like a sheep led to the slaughtering block, like an ewe silent before her shearers, he did not even open his mouth.”
Philippians 2:8 “He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross!”
Let us follow Christ’s perfect example, and lay down our lives to Him, daily, as He laid down His own precious life, in humble obedience, for us.
Romans 12:1 “Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice – alive, holy, and pleasing to God – which is your reasonable service.”
