Satan is tremendously effective in his efforts to lie, cheat and steal. He successfully lies to, and often steals our children and loved ones away from us. With prayer, and the power of God, however, we can get those things back. When Satan steals a loved one, or friend, it is very obvious and, with the Lord’s help, we typically fight back in the Spiritual realm through love and prayer. Unfortunately, there is one thing that Satan often steals without our conscious awareness or any retaliation whatsoever. Those things are knowledge and understanding of our contribution to the Kingdom.
One of his biggest lies, that impacts each and every one of us, is the lie that we are not doing anything to further God’s Kingdom. He attempts to make us feel totally worthless and undeserving. If we have sin that we know about in our lives, he will choose that particular sin to wave in our faces, constantly dragging it in front of us. If we won’t give up the sin, because we are human, we eventually start telling ourselves that we can’t do anything for the Lord in our condition and that we don’t deserve a blessing. As I stated in one of my previous articles, there is nothing you can do to make God love you any more. He already loves you with a supernatural love that transcends all human understanding. Stop believing Satan’s lies! Then get the sin out of your life. Remember Samson? In Judges 15:16 we read “And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men” and yet Samson was not without sin in his life. The point is this: that God can still use you, even if you are not perfect (because Samson was not perfect, as we all know). But following Samson’s example again, it is much better to be sin-free than sin-filled. Remember Daniel? God can and will use you much more powerfully if you will do all in your power to ‘make it right’ with God.
Another tact that Satan takes, the one I really want to discuss in this article, is convincing God’s children that they really aren’t doing anything to further His Kingdom. After all, look at Billy Graham — now that’s doing the Lord’s work. Look at the revivals that are happening all over the world — now that’s God’s work. Compared to them, what have you or I done? You say you only put a fish on your car’s trunk, and a sticker on the back window of the family van? “Big deal”, you might be tempted to think. “Billy Graham led 2000 people to the Lord just last week.” Well, the truth of the matter is that your fish or sticker might just be a big deal in God’s plan.
Not long ago, while sitting at a red light, I witnessed a young woman behind me looking at the stickers in the back window of my little Saturn wagon. One reads “Oh Lord, so many lost, so little time,” the other simply asks “Got Jesus?” I watched her eyes move from one to the other and, when she finished reading the “Got Jesus”, her head dropped. Then she looked directly at my eyes in my rear-view mirror, and I could see that she was crying. I have no way of knowing what she was thinking before she read the stickers but I know that she was definitely affected by them. I saw understanding and conviction in her eyes. When she saw me looking back in the mirror, she quickly turned her head away. I never took my eyes off of her, watching her in my mirror to see what she would do next. Before the light had turned green, she had sheepishly looked back at the “Got Jesus” sticker two more times before I drove ahead and she turned right. Did those simple stickers impact someone’s life. Absolutely! Did she get saved because of it (if she was not already a Christian)? I’ll find out one day in the not too distant future.
How many times has someone overheard a comment that you have made, or been touched by the Holy Spirit because of a sign or a poster in your cube or office? Each of us has a job to do in the Kingdom, some big, some small. First Corinthians 12:15-23 blesses me every time I read it. “For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more abundant honor; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.”
One day, you will know for certain how many lost people were touched through your ministry, no matter what it is. And the next time that Satan tells you that you’re weak and ineffective or that you’re worthless, remember, that is not God speaking. Instead of sitting at home depressed, go out and do even more for the Lord.
