The following account is an absolutely true story. It is shocking, and it is about Voodoo, and how Voodoo can be used to cause trouble in the church. Some people will tell you Voodoo doesn’t exist. I’m here to tell you it does. The Lord doesn’t like Voodoo, or churches that are given over to waywardness. So if you think it’s a good idea, think again.
Several years ago, during the summertime, I was visiting Montreal, the city in which I was born. I attended a charismatic church service where a lot of music was played, and, at the end of the church service, I suddenly became extremely ill. Now I love good worship music, and I love the church, but something was very wrong.
Could it be that the Lord was speaking to me through that sudden illness? Why was it that nobody else got sick like that at the church service? After all, there seemed to be about 100 or more people there. And yet the point is, that God will speak to you sometimes, through sudden illness like this in order to let you know that something is wrong. Was I the problem, and everything else was okay? Or, was something fundamentally wrong with the church, and did God want me to know about it? Well, as it turned out, God was allowing me to suffer so that I would know there was a problem with this church. But it would take me a few weeks to get the final confirmation that indeed there was a serious problem.
I had only felt ill like this on two other occasions both of which happened at the same place when, many years before, our entire family had slept over at a non-Christian family-counselling so-called “retreat center” located in the Eastern Townships of Quebec.
This retreat center practiced things that were not Christian, such as praying to “Mother Earth”. You might think that’s okay. But I’m here to tell you it’s not at all okay. That’s like an open ticket to inviting demons into your midst. It’s the same thing that happens when you practice Voodoo, or when you play Voodoo music. Demons come into your midst, and they begin to influence literally everything you do.
Becoming so sick like that at the retreat center was actually a sign of God’s goodness over me, because he did not want me being involved in stuff like that. You see, sometimes when you get sick, it’s actually a good thing, because it forces you to take notice that there’s a real problem in that particular circumstance. The alternative is just to keep soaking in the bad teaching, or being influenced by people who themselves are headed to hell. You don’t want that, do you? So don’t despise sickness if it happens to be used by God to lead you in the right direction.
I later realized that the “thing” that was making me ill were demonic spirits that were attacking me through the people at this retreat center, who rejected the true and living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the one who sent the Lord Jesus Christ to die on a cross. These people would have nothing to do with him.
Now it was years later. Though I had been sick many times since that point in time (“like everyone”, you might say … the normal colds, and occasional flu), yet I had never ever felt this same type of violent sickness that had come upon me on those two occasions when I slept over at the retreat center. It was “so much the same” that I immediately remembered the retreat center and the fact that there was something demonic about it.
Having attended the charismatic church service in Montreal, and having barely recovered from the sickness, I then left Montreal and went back to my home in Ottawa, about 120 miles (200 kilometers) away. But then … not too long afterwards, I had the incling to “look for a job” in Montreal. It turns out that by “divine providence” (quite obviously) I was arranged by a mutual friend to be staying at the apartment of the very drummer of the band that played the same night I became violently ill.
It turns out that we got to talking, and … of course, we ended up talking about the night that I had been there for that so-called “great” church event. As it turned out, pride swelled up in the drummer’s heart over the music that he has been playing that night and so he said to me, “Did you like the drumbeat that I played that night?” Then, as he went to fetch an album cover, he added, “Here, I’ll show you … it is based on this Voodoo music here. Isn’t that cool?”
I immediately became enraged in my spirit. “Don’t you ever do that again!” I shot back. “I was very sick because of that!” I explained to him that you couldn’t mix God’s things with the devil’s things. That would produce a curse, not a blessing. But didn’t this guy know? Apparently not!
Now this is just the tip of the iceberg of some of the ungodly things that are happening in the church today. Surely this so-called “church” was the “Moonies” or something else, right? No, it was a mainline charismatic church, a church that has come to be loved and appreciated world-over for the high quality music that it produces. However, as you can see, things are not always rosie in the church. Things happen when teaching goes astray.
For example, I had been at this church on at least one other occasion, because I respected the group in which this church came from, having been blessed by them in the past. However, what I observed the pastor doing absolutely shocked me! On this former occasion, this man would take certain people from his congregation and “knight” them in a “knighting ceremony” in which he would declare, “I now knight you”. This is sin and an abomination to God! If you are a pastor, God does not want you knighting people! This is an entirely worldly ceremony that has nothing to do with the church. When a pastor begins to do this, he has come under the deception of the devil, having been taken captive to do the devil’s will. Such a pastor will lose the spiritual sensitivity that he needs to lead his flock, having been taken over by demonic influences.
If you are a pastor listening to this message, and you have engaged in these things, you need to repent and change your ways. If you do, God will bless you. If you do not, you will come under a curse and you will end up taking your entire congregation with you, unless someone comes along and breaks up your fun. Voodoo is not a joke. Demons are not a joke. The person who messes with either of them can bring a curse on his family for generations to come, including perpetual sickness, disease, poverty, and multiple other curses. However, the man or woman who repents of these things will bring a blessing to generations to come, according to the Scriptures.
Quoting Exodus 20:5b-6, “For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.”
If you want to do what’s right, and you want the blessing, you need to obey the Lord!
