True Peace

There is no question in my mind that this week’s activities (dating back to the World Trade Center destruction) are going to be pivotal in world history. While I don’t claim to know for absolute certain how this will all pan out, here is one plausible scenario that I see arising.

Terrorism will not decrease but will increase. The need for security will increase proportionally. The world rulers will band together as they are doing today, and decide that some drastic measures need to be implemented to ensure that we can track people. From this will come the inevitable ‘solution’ that people need to carry some form of identification that superseded anything the world has ever seen to date. Today, we carry cards and passports. Cards and passports can be easily swapped. Pictures can be swapped. Even microfilm can be swapped if you’re clever enough.

But a permanent mark on your hand, or on your forehead, cannot be easily swapped. Thus, I am suggesting that possibly the threat of terrorism, such as we have seen in the last week, could lead to the scenario described in the book of Revelation in the Bible: “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads.” (Revelation 13:16)

Because governments will be very afraid of another attack, everyone is going to be forced to “come out in the open” and receive a mark on their hand or on their forehead. To ensure that everyone complies, an edict will be issued worldwide not to permit anyone who does not have the mark to buy or to sell: “And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” (Revelation 13:17)

From the standpoint of technology, it sounds like a good plan. Force everyone to receive a mark by which you can identify that person. Unfortunately, the hearts of men and women are “desperately wicked” the Bible warns us (Jeremiah 17:9). The “head honcho” who is going to mastermind this seemingly innocent plan will have a heart more evil than all others combined — the Bible tells us that he’ll be the anti-Christ. What will seem good will actually be evil.

All those receiving the mark will actually be doomed. Why will those who receive the mark be doomed? They will be doomed, primarily, I think, because they will be the ones who have ‘bought in’ to this whole belief that peace can be bought, or controlled, from the “outside in”. Not because they receive the mark, but because they have bought in to this belief, will they be doomed. It will be a heart matter that dooms them, as dooms all people.

Esau forfeited a blessing because he sold his birthright for a bowl of soup. It will be the same type of thing with those who receive the mark on their hands or foreheads. For the most part — thought I do not believe entirely, because, again, it is a heart issue — they will have forfeited the blessing of real, eternal, peace, because they sold their right to it for the privilege of being able to buy and sell.

Where are you at today in your walk of faith, and whose peace is it that you are relying upon? Is it the ‘world peace’ that comes from an external source — using military might against those who cause terrorism, for example? Is this where your hope is? On the other hand, Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Christian and non-Christian alike, if you are troubled today, there is Someone that you can go to who has the answer. He is Jesus. He is also called the “Prince of Peace” believe it or not, and he went to the cross on your behalf, and suffered the death that we all should have suffered. He gives eternal life to all those who call upon his name, and we can be assured that he has the power and authority to give us that life, on account of the fact that he rose from the dead. Jesus said, “No man taketh [my life] from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.” (John 10:18a) By this he was assuring us that he had full power over the grave.

If you are wondering, “Where will I go when I die?” there is someone who has the answer. That someone is Jesus. He died for you and loves you. Won’t you put your faith in him today?

“Heavenly Father, I accept that you sent Jesus to die for me on the cross and rise again. Lord Jesus, I turn away from my old life of sin and disobedience and I ask you to come into my heart and make me your dear child by faith. Holy Spirit, come fill me and use me for your kingdom. For it is in Christ’s name that I pray. Amen.”
