What made him do it?

Matthew Murray, 24, of Englewood, Colorado, killed four people on Sunday, in a desire to gain revenge over offenses that he felt came to him from other Christians. I don’t know the story – whether he was genuinely sinned against, or whether he only perceived that he was sinned against – but what I do know is that no matter what happened – whether he was sinned against, or whether he only perceived it – it was his duty, before God, to forgive those who had either intentionally – or, much more likely – unintentionally offended him. That’s just the “plain Jane” calling that each and every one of us has. From YOUR perspective, it matters not how many times you have been sinned against. What matters is that you are willing to forgive, every single time.

Quoting from the Bible, “Then Peter came and said to Him, ‘Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.'” (Matthew 18:21-22, NASB)

Now, honestly, I was not even going to write this devotional today, because I have a job to do, and much work at that. But the HOLY SPIRIT said I needed to write this, for someone. Yes, just one person would be enough. Maybe that person is YOU. What offense are you carrying with you today? What on earth is so important that you should continue to hold a grudge? Why are you so downcast, and where is your faith? Are you really a Christian? If so, LIVE like it! Otherwise, you are not a Christian, and only pretending to be. Here’s how you KNOW if you are a Christian, saved and sanctified, set apart for God, and redeemed by His blood. If you don’t pass THIS test, how can you say that you are saved for all eternity, and redeemed? Will you not perish and end up in hell, for all eternity, just like Matthew Murray, if you don’t repent?

REAL Christians …

Forgive others.

REAL Christians …

Don’t nurse grudges.

REAL Christians …

Don’t gossip in an attempt to inflate themselves and make themselves feel better.

REAL Christians …

Pursue love, even when it hurts.

REAL Christians …

Make attempts at reconciliation and NEVER say, “Well, he did THAT so I am justified!” You are NEVER justified in sinning. EVER.

So how did you do? Did you pass the test? If you did, that is great! Keep passing those tests as they come along. God will bless you if you do.

But perhaps you may say, “I’ve DONE all that, and God is STILL not blessing me!” If you honestly “DID ALL THAT” and you don’t feel God is blessing you, you’ve got a screw lose somewhere that needs tightening! May I strongly suggest the area that needs tightening if your CONFESSION. You CONFESS Jesus is Lord, correct? That’s step one! It’s just the VERY FIRST STEP of your confession! Step two is confessing He is good! Confess that He loves you! Confess through Christ you can do all things that He has called you to do … TODAY … and for EVERY DAY for the REST OF YOUR LIFE!

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He can and WILL see you through the day. You CAN make a change in this world in which you live. You CAN and WILL do it, through Christ, who gives you abundant, Holy Spirit-filled, depression-lifting, soul-empowering, spirit-lifting, mind-transforming, demon-smashing, love-conquering, forgiveness-granting, unashamed, unstoppable, unbeatable VICTORY in this world in which YOU YOURSELF live with God’s full approval resting upon you – if you do these things!

Be not ashamed. Be a Christian. Be righteous. Be forgiving. Be loving. Be wise. And be bold for Christ. Live today for the fullest. WATCH your confession carefully – because what you SAY you will LIVE. And you will REAP the consequences of what you do and say.

God bless you. Be at peace. And NEVER nurse a grudge! Get over it. And get real. Because God is looking. And He will reward EVERY man according to what he has done. And that includes you!

“See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled.” (Hebrews 12:15)

“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.” (Revelation 22:12)
