When God Gives the Word, Speak!

It’s not often, quite frankly, that I get the “word” to speak to others about Jesus Christ at my workplace and beyond. Only about 5 or 10 times a day — that’s all! And that’s NOT MUCH! So when I get the chance, I take it! And I “make” the chance, too, by posting up stories, testimonies and personal writings for people to read. I also make it a habit of posting notices — everywhere in the company, advertising our weekly bible study. They sometimes get “taken down”, but, then, I just post them back up again, praying each time as I do. It’s a lot of fun, and I know that God is at work in all of it.

Recently, a workmate of mine came over to speak with me. He does that whenever God “leads” him to. Something tells him, “I had better go over and speak with Dan”, and it is at those same times that God gives me something useful to say. I am thankful for God’s leading, both to bring this man over to speak with me (on occasion), as well as giving me the words to speak to him.

“So, did you go to the picnic on Saturday?” my friend asked me.

“No,” I replied. “I went to the “March for Jesus”.

“Oh, I saw that on the news,” my friend responded.

“It was great!” I said. “I decided to go the march because I felt that it would honor God more than going to the picnic”.

Hum … I didn’t know how that would go over. But, he did seem to receive it well. So I continued sharing, sensing the Lord was leading me to.

“It’s great being with people who have their ‘head in the clouds’, so to speak. I like the upwards focus … it’s pretty important to me. Life is so short, so I want to spend all the time doing those things that will have eternal rewards.”

My friend heard all the words. I said them “just as the Lord gave me utterance,” not saying what the Lord did not give me to share, and saying all that he did give me to share! I did not condemn my friend, but shared with him freely from my heart.

The words were not taken in the wrong way — my friend and I have a good (working) relationship — though he is somewhat sensitive, I have never sensed that I have ever really offended him by anything I have said. And he has permitted me, in fact, to share with him quite a bit, so I try to take the chance “whenever I can” to open up the conversation a little bit!

Now, it is God’s turn to do the convicting, as my friend has a chance to think about all that I shared — the fact that to think about heaven is an important thing, and that we need to be ready. That, plus the articles that are posted outside my little “breathing space” that I have been allocated here at this company. (Thank God for the space to breathe!)

“Oh, Lord, grant that we might be able to share the love, and the power, and the majesty, and the greatness, of our Lord and God, with those whom you have put us with. For it is in Christ’s name that we pray. Amen.”

Do we share? Are we ready to share at the drop of a hat?

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” (1 Peter 3:15)

” … it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27)

“Jesus said unto her, ‘I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?'” (John 11:25-26)
