When God Speaks … Listen!

“My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:27-28, NIV)

I arrived at work one morning and a busy morning it was. I worked for a construction office that installed cabling for private residence as well as large corporations.

I had a lot of data entry that morning and I also had to get all of the deposits for the company ready to go to the bank before 2:00 p.m.. I sat down at my desk and started working. Before I knew it, it was 12:00 noon.

I stretched with my arms all thrown back and released a big old yawn. I had been sitting at that desk since 8:00 that morning and I guess I really needed to get up and walk around a little bit. But I didn’t. I continued to finish making all the bank deposits so that when I got up from my desk I could put them all in the appropriate envelopes on the wall behind me.

After I completed everything, I then got up from my desk and proceeded to put the deposit slips in the envelopes on the wall. After I finished doing that I turned to sit back down when all of a sudden I heard this still small voice say, “Don’t sit down.”

I thought to myself, “Why am I hearing that?”

I proceeded to move my chair back to sit down when I heard once again, “Don’t sit down … look under your desk.”

By this time, I was a little uneasy (to say the least). All I know is that I moved my chair and got down on my knees. I looked up under my desk which was kind of dark due to my desk being in a corner office.

I saw something but I could not make out what it was. I thought, “Now you know that’s not a snake”?

I reached in my drawer and pulled out a ruler and I reached out and touched it, when all of a sudden it struck out at me, sending me flying back against the wall in shock!

I slowly got up off the floor and walked over to the stairwell. Everyone had gone to lunch except for one guy upstairs and me. I called up to him and said very calmly, “Can you come down here? There is a snake under my desk …”.

He yelled back down and said, “You’re kidding me?”

I said, “No, it really is! Hurry up!”

He came flying down the stairs and started to walk slowly into my office. He peaked up under my desk and said, “You’re right, I can’t believe this”.

He told me to stay there and watch to make sure the snake didn’t come out of my office until he could get something to use in order to catch it.

He was able to catch the snake which turned out to be a baby copper head. This snake is known to be the most deadly of all snakes. Also, the fact that it was a baby made him more deadly. I was really glad I didn’t know all of this before I got down on my hands and knees looking under that desk! Ha! Nonetheless, I know the Lord was looking out for me and I thank Him from the bottom of my heart. I am extremely blessed!
