On a certain day, I had a dream. In the dream I saw a big snake. The snake was as big as a large Florida python. The imagery of the dream included the snake being in an attack position against me. I initially tried to war against it, but was obviously not that effective, because at one point, when I tried to strike its head, it turned into two snakes! It was extremely long (maybe 20-30 feet). The snake represented Satan and the Lord Himself was warning me about Satan’s attack against me. But how would the attack come? I didn’t realize it, but the attack had already come. True to what the Lord showed me, I was not at all being successful in breaking Satan’s power. I didn’t even know that he was attacking me.
Being ignorant of what Satan was doing, I was not dealing with the problem in a spiritually-effective manner. What was the problem, anyway? The problem began as feelings of dizziness that would suddenly come upon me. The dizziness was Satanically-induced, but originally, I did feel dizzy on two occasions that were due to exhaustion as well as what appears to be an electrolyte imbalance which occurred when I was on a spiritual fast, but still working in a very hot room in the summer, and at which time I was sweating and not drinking enough water. So I became dehydrated and experienced some symptoms of dizziness. A week later, I worked virtually all night without sleeping, and then on the next night slept maybe five hours and the next day went on a long drive with my family, at which time my wife and I and our children stayed with some friends. By the time we arrived, it was early in the morning, and my body was spent, but out of respect for the host, agreed to go on a walk early in the morning, after which time, having walked about 15 minutes, suddenly began to feel dizzy again. It appears to be a clear case of exhaustion.
Therefore, prior to Satan moving in — or at about the time that Satan moved in (plus or minus) — I had two bouts of dizziness, and both were due to clear “misuses” of my body — dehydration and exhaustion. I began to think that something might not be right, when in fact, it was just a clear case of overworking my body. This then set the stage for Satan. So there is a faith component to this article. I believed that something might be wrong. And this seemed to open a door. This was the door that Satan evidently was looking for (that is, Satan or one of his demons). After this, I began to feel dizzy much more often. A lack of knowledge about my situation then gave way to fear — and fearing that there might be something wrong — opened a door to the demonic world. And that is all that it takes to open a door to the demonic world — fear. After that, I more regularly started to feel dizzy. The dizzy feelings themselves would appear “suddenly” and unexpectedly. I didn’t realize there was a demon involved! As you read this series, you will see just how involved!
The Bible teaches that we are not to be ignorant of Satan’s schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11). What I am trying to show you in this article is that you can have the symptoms for different reasons. You can have symptoms like I did — dizziness, originally, due to physically overstressing the body — and because of fear, you can allow Satan “in the door” to continue to afflict you with the same symptoms that are not physically caused at all. It’s a bit of “fancy footwork” that Satan does to get in the door. He might use a natural set of circumstances and then your fear in the matter to do it. In my case, I believed that something might be wrong, and this allowed Satan to enter in. At what point exactly did Satan enter in? I can’t exactly tell you, but I do know that he did. What started out as a physical problem clearly became spiritual, and soon I was experiencing fairly regular episodes of dizziness — that were not physically caused. (I have heard of demons gaining access through car accidents, for example, in which case, any type of fear, such as the fear that it could happen again — if this fear is not surrendered to the Lord, can give access to a demon to cause trouble in that person’s life.)
Shortly after this, I saw a doctor, and had blood tests done. The blood tests all came back normal. The doctor even did an ECG (electrocardiogram) to test my heart. Everything came back normal. The doctor said there was nothing physiologically wrong. I thought to myself, “How could it be?” It was only after having visited the doctor, that things began to click. That’s several days after the Lord gave me that dream. Because of what the doctor said — “There is nothing wrong” — and what the Lord said — “There is something wrong and it is with Satan who is attacking you” — I was finally able to put “two plus two” together and form a link between the cases of dizziness and Satan himself.
The word from the doctor was a good word. The Lord used that to help bolster my faith. Remember, this article is all about faith. If we have fear, Satan (or one of his demons) can move in. God wants to bring us to a place of faith and confidence in Him. I am not trying to say that physiological problems do not exist. If you suspect you might have a physiological problem, go get it checked out. Get the tests done. But if the doctor comes back and says, “all the tests are normal,” it might be time to start exercising faith that there is actually nothing wrong with you physiologically (even some physiological problems can be directly related to spiritual matters, and Martyn Lloyd-Jones, who was assistant physician to the Queen of England and who later became a preacher, recognized this and spoke about this — I read about this in a book written by Christopher Catherwood many years ago — the name of which escapes me — who is the grandson to Martyn Lloyd-Jones). I myself was previously healed from Ankylosing Spondylitis — that’s a real, physiological disease — but the roots of it were entirely spiritual.
“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” (1 John 5:1-4, NASB)
