Wisdom Of A Child

“But [Jesus] answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon March 27, 1999, when my granddaughters came to spend some time with me. They hadn’t been with me very long, when my eight year old granddaughter Denai said, ‘Granny, will you come for a walk with us?’

Within 45 minutes we were headed on our walk. As we live in the country, and it being early spring, we had to walk down the road. We had only gone a short distance when we saw a heard of cattle in some corrals. I brought it to Denai’s attention the great number of cattle in the corral.

Denai said, “Granny, why do you keep looking at the cattle?” I said, “All those cattle mean a lot of money, but, anyway, it is just money.”

Denai’s reply was, “Granny, do you remember when Jesus was tempted in the desert by Satan? Jesus’s reply was ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” We then had a great discussion on how empty people feel when they do not know God.

You can know all about God but still don’t know Him. That was a good piece of advice from a eight year old child.

Praise The Lord for children. It doesn’t matter how much faith you have but where you put that faith is what counts.
